Solid Command vs. Solid Hatch

Ok, the debate rages on regarding using the Solid command vs Solid Hatch, here are some pro of using Solid hatch

Pros:
Way fewer points to pick
Hatch is associated with "boundary" objects
Can handle curved walls

Cons:
Sensitive to small gaps in line geometry

So if you plan on using Solid Hatch here are some tips:
  • Use the new windows and doors (these have wall end cap lines)
  • Ensure that your corners are joined (use FILLET comand on corners)
  • Make sure your Hatch is set to Associative
  • Use the STRETCH command to move geometry instead of MOVE
Using Stretch
  • At the command line type S (for stretch) and then C (for "crossing")
  • Select two points for stretch selection
(note anything completely within crossing is moved, thereas any object that is partially within crossing is "stretched")

  • Select two displacement points (here is the result:)

Note: The associative hatch does not always correct, one tip is to zoom in fairly close.

Please note the above procedure will work on solids as well......so maybe it doesn't really matter which you use.
